Fire Starter Festival 23 – 30 January 2017

Between 23rd and 30th January 2017, Workforce Scotland will be hosting and supporting the Fire Starter Festival, a week-long festival of collaborative learning events, illuminating creative, disruptive and innovative ways in which we can all transform ourselves, our organisations and the wider system.

fire picThe First Minister has provided a clear commitment to empowering individuals and communities to become involved in designing public services. Many people across Scotland are currently lighting their own small fires by exploring genuine, participatory methods of engagement, creating innovative and transformative changes.

The Fire Starter Festival provides a unique opportunity to share the stories of these fires of change, as well as deepening our knowledge and skills that underpin transformation. It allows people from all aspects of public service to share innovative and creative ways that we are all making a difference to Scotland.

Information Sessions, August – October 2016

To ignite the Fire Starter Festival, we have organised a series of information sessions:

  • 24 August 2016, 9.30am – 1pm – Edinburgh
  • 29 September 2016, 9.30am – 1pm – Glasgow
  • 12 October 2016, 9.30am – 1pm – Edinburgh

Each of these sessions will be open to anyone from across the public and third sector, who is interested in hosting an event or sharing a story about they work that they are doing at during the Fire Starter Festival. The sessions will give potential event hosts a chance to network with one another, find out more about the Festival, and to get some support from their peers in designing their events and sessions. If you are interested in attending one of these events, please sign up here.

Host a Fire Starter Festival 2017 Event

There are lots of examples of creative and innovative work happening all across Scottish Government, and we hope that you will join the festival and host your own event to share work that you and your colleagues are doing. Ingage have scheduled a few events that we will host during the Fire Starter Festival, but we are really keen for others to catch the sparks and create their own small fires of change.

FSF logo.pngYou may have an event already programmed for January 2017 which could be ‘badged’ as part of the Festival, or you may want to host a bespoke event on a theme, topic or area of work you feel aligns to our ethos. If you would like some help thinking through how you and your organisation could get involved please email Karen.Lawson@gov.scot, Kirsty.Merriman@gov.scot, or come along to one of the Autumn Information sessions.

We will share all Fire Starter events in the Festival Programme, which will be circulated widely around public and third sector networks in Scotland. If you would like your event to become part of this programme, please add your details to this questionnaire.

Climate Week 16-23 September 2016

September 16-23 marks Scotland’s first national Climate Week; a national campaign to raise awareness and inspire action on climate change across Scotland. Following the United Nations Paris Agreement in December, it is particularly important we build on our climate change leadership this year.

climate week.pngThe Climate Week team are asking organisations to host events and activities with their staff to highlight the importance of reducing emissions and adapting to a changing climate.

The aim is to engage and inspire, by involving people across the country in a range of activities. Events can range from bike tours and electric vehicle demonstrations, to presentations from inspirational speakers, film viewings and workshops. Watch this video to find out more.   If you would like to run an event, the Sustainable Scotland Network (SSN) can register your interest and provide access to further guidance and promotional material. SSN will be contacting the public bodies separately and are keeping a public online register of those wishing to take part in Climate Week. For more information please contact ssn@keepscotlandbeautiful.org
