Leadership Exchanges

Blind date-style adventures for public services

The Leadership Exchange Programme pairs up leaders across sectors to provide insight into different working environments, spark fresh thinking, and build lasting connections across Scotland's public services.

How It Works

Leadership Exchanges are designed as short, immersive placements — a kind of "blind date" for public service leaders. Participants step into another organisation for a day or more, observing how colleagues in different sectors tackle similar challenges. The experience broadens perspective, challenges assumptions, and often leads to ongoing collaboration.

What You Gain

  • Direct exposure to leadership approaches in a different public service context
  • A confidential space to reflect on your own practice with a peer
  • Practical ideas and approaches you can adapt to your own setting
  • An expanded network of cross-sector relationships across Scotland

Who It's For

The programme is open to leaders at all levels across Scottish public services — from team leads to senior executives — who are curious about how other organisations work and committed to collaborative improvement.
